Embarking on the Blaine Residence Project, Hometec uncovered a narrative of resilience and revival that captures the imagination. The tale began when an unforeseen disaster struck—a pipe burst on the second floor, unleashing a quarter of a million gallons of water throughout this venerable home. Upon arrival, it was clear this was no ordinary restoration; it was an insurance company job that would challenge us in unexpected ways. The water's aftermath was so severe that the insurance agent on scene declared every item within the house a within a total loss.
Faced with such devastation, the Hometec team embarked on a journey to breathe new life into a structure that had stood the test of time for over a century in downtown Blaine. The residence, a testament to historical construction practices, was built with lath and plaster (composed of lime aggregate, animal hair and water), materials that may seem peculiar by today's standards but were commonplace a hundred years ago. This method, while durable, had succumbed to the ravages of water, rendering the air within toxic and the structure itself a shell of its former glory.
Our mission became clear: to gut the house down to its bare bones and embark on an ambitious reconstruction. This project was not merely about restoration; it was about reinvention. We delved into the heart of this 100+ year old home, stripping away layers of history to reveal the framework that would support its new beginning.
